So we can see that from this one extract we are faced with a few challenges. Place entries 1 is fairly straight forward at first glance, or is it? Who is the householder, or head of house? Twenty year old Daniel or forty year old William? Or does it indicate that perhaps Daniel's father or mother was missing on census night?

Looking at place 3, do we see a mother and two daughters here? and what is the connection between Ralph Twemlow in place2 and John Twemlow in place 3? Good stuff eh? and there we just thought that a CEB was a list of names.

On this page is a good example of rounding down or up of ages with both Ralph and John Twemlow given as age 50 yrs. Whilst they could have been twins, it is more likely that the enumerator rounded off the ages.

We can also see that household number 3 seems to have no visible means of income from a profession. One of the amazing facts of the 1841 ( and many other) census is that it was very rare for the enumerator to note a female occupation, yet we are aware that females, especially in agricultural villages such as this, made significant contributions to the local economy.
